A blog lets anyone making use of it observe a progress, stage by stage, of related ideas becoming a process. The most recent stage of this is the first posted item a visitor to the site sees. But items posted earlier sometimes need direct connection to earlier postings. Jon Roy’s account of how, when, and why he and I began to work together is directly related to my thanking him for his participation. We shared concern that musical gifts to the ongoing legacy of Harry Partch were being questioned and criticized by Partch’s followers as if they were examples of disloyalty and misrepresentation. I needed to take this challenge on at a time of unrelated crisis precisely because it shocked me into beginning anew.
I understand why blogs are presented with their latest postings first. But I wish they could be presented in retrograde. Then the events dealt with could more easily be seen as a unified process.
